2020 West Virginia Legislature Interactive Graphic

Thirty-four senators and 100 delegates opened the second regular session of the 84th West Virginia Legislature on January 8, 2020. This interactive helped reacquaint users with their elected officials at the Capitol.

Users of this interactive were able to refamiliarize themselves with members of both the West Virginia House and the West Virginia Senate.   Michael Ramsburg

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The second regular session of the 84th West Virginia Legislature means the arrival of some familiar —  and, perhaps, some not so familiar —  faces at the West Virginia state capitol. I created this interactive graphic to help West Virginians refamiliarize themselves with their political leaders in Charleston.

Users select either the House or Senate using buttons on the graphic. Hovering over a chamber seat reveals a politician's name, photograph and details about their home county and district. Clicking on the chamber seat takes users to the representative's page on the West Virginia Legislature's website. There, users can familiarize themselves with bills sponsored by the legislator, find ways to contact the representative and more.

To build this interactive, I created the chamber seat graphic in Flourish and exported the SVG file. I then animated the SVG files using CSS and JavaScript.
